Zelda + Link

  I might have Disney and other fairy tales to blame for this, but I've always thought idea of someone being rescued and marrying their rescuer romantic. It's not the exact purpose of every Zelda game to rescue the princess, but often it's key to saving their land of Hyrule. My first Zelda game I played all the way through was Ocarina of Time, and I really loved it. For a game series with   Princess Zelda in the title, it's a little surprising she's not the character you play as.   I suppose they wanted to make it so you could name the character you play whatever you wanted. If you named him after yourself, it makes it easier to submerge you into the game, but   Link is his default name. 

As the holders of the Triforce   pieces of Wisdom (Zelda) and Courage (Link), Link and Zelda team up to fight Ganondorf, holder of the Triforce of Power. Zelda mostly plays a supporting role, but I really enjoyed how you got to fight the final boss with Zelda in Wind Waker.  And there was a lot of romantic undertones in Skyward Sword that I liked, too!
I think most of the appeal of them as a romantic couple is for me that there's kind of a hopeful ache while playing that after the world's saved, they'll find each other and end up living happily ever after. There are other   female  love interests for Link, sure, and I enjoy watching those interactions, but Princess Zelda is the only one that appears again and again in every game. It's like destiny.

I need to catch up with my plan of playing all the games!
