13-Art Break (My Birthday)
I’ve loved the fantasy genre ever since I was a little girl. I liked having long hair and wore dresses all the time to emulate fantasy maidens. I loved to watch first generation My Little Pony reruns and had my parents rent me “The Last Unicorn” movie over and over. Clearly, unicorns were my favorite fantasy creatures, but I think I just wanted a friend who would play with me whenever my best friend wasn’t available. Plus the idea of riding a unicorn seemed like the best thing ever.
In my heart, I’m still that little girl. The idea of being able to poof anything into being or to travel to other worlds is very appealing. But now instead of princesses and dragons in medieval-like settings, my favorite type of fantasy is magic in the modern world: Urban Fantasy. I like to imagine how magic hides in this world of cell phones and cameras. Stories like Harry Potter, the Dresden Files, and most things Kelley Armstrong writes create interesting possibilities to me.
I know many just assume fantasy creatures aren’t real, but I choose to believe in them. Just imagine- if magic is real, than anything is possible. For me, that makes this mundane-seeming life just a touch more special.
